Osteopathy for low back pain and sciatica — Paris 14th and Asnières
A painful lower back in the morning, a discomfort radiating into the buttock or the leg, stiffness that returns after long hours of sitting: back pain is the most frequent reason for consulting at the practice — and it is rarely something you simply have to live with.
Low back pain and sciatica in plain words
Low back pain sits between the last ribs and the pelvis. It can appear suddenly — the classic strain after an awkward movement or lifting — or settle in gradually, sustained by prolonged sitting, lack of movement or a period of fatigue. In the vast majority of cases it does not reflect any serious damage: this is what is called common low back pain.
When the pain travels into the buttock and down the back of the thigh, sometimes to the foot, it points to sciatica: the nerve is irritated along its path, often near the last lumbar vertebrae. The discomfort may show at the first step in the morning, when sitting, or when straightening up.
The earlier a discomfort is addressed, the less time it has to change the way you stand and move. Waiting for it to pass on its own often means compensating — and seeing new tension appear in the hip, the pelvis or the upper back.
What osteopathy can bring
The session starts with a conversation about the history of your pain, your medical background and your daily life, followed by an osteopathic assessment: a series of tests to locate the areas that have lost mobility — lumbar spine, pelvis, hips, weight-bearing. The techniques used afterwards are adapted to that assessment and to your sensitivity; they can help release tension and bring back movement where it is missing.
The session ends with practical advice: workstation set-up, movements to resume gradually, positions to favour. The goal is for you to leave in charge of your back, not dependent on sessions.
When to see a doctor first — pain accompanied by fever, loss of strength or sensation in the leg, urinary changes, or pain following an injury calls for medical advice before any session. Osteopathy never replaces a diagnosis or medical care.
