02 — Consultations

Reasons to consult

I see adults, pregnant women, children and athletes. The reasons below are the most common at the practice; if you are unsure whether an osteopathy session is appropriate for your situation, speak to your doctor first.

Low back pain and sciatica

Back pain is the most frequent reason for consulting. A recent or long-standing lower back complaint, pain radiating down the leg in a sciatica-like pattern, stiffness on waking or after long hours seated: the session aims to identify the areas that have lost mobility and to work on them with appropriate manual techniques, alongside medical care whenever that care is needed.

Neck pain and headaches

A stiff neck, tension between the shoulder blades, tension-type headaches: these complaints often go hand in hand with long hours of screen work. I assess the mobility of the neck, upper back and jaw, and give you simple posture and stretching routines to use at home.

Pregnancy and post-partum

I see pregnant women at the different stages of pregnancy — lower back pain, pelvic discomfort, digestive discomfort — using gentle techniques, and again after the birth. This always complements the care of your midwife or obstetrician; it never replaces it.

Babies and children

With the paediatrician's opinion first, I see babies for the classic complaints: colic, plagiocephaly (flat head), torticollis. The techniques are very gentle, with no forced movements, and parents stay in the room throughout. I also see children and teenagers.

Functional and ENT complaints

Some digestive discomfort (bloating, irregular transit) and ENT complaints (blocked-ear sensation, recurring sinusitis) can be supported with osteopathy, once a medical diagnosis has been made where symptoms persist.

Athletes

I see regular and occasional athletes: preparing for an event, recovering after effort, or easing a complaint linked to a repetitive movement. The goal is to maintain mobility and limit the compensations that build up with training.

Osteopathy never replaces medical advice, diagnosis or care. For any unusual or acute symptom — fever, trauma, chest pain — see a doctor first.

04 — FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does a session last?

Allow between 45 minutes and an hour, including time to talk and get settled. A first consultation can run slightly longer.

Do I need a prescription to consult?

No. Osteopaths can be consulted directly, without a medical prescription. If your situation calls for a doctor first, I will tell you so and point you in the right direction.

Is the session reimbursed?

Osteopathy is not covered by the French state health service, but most private health insurers reimburse some or all sessions. An invoice is issued after each consultation — see the fees and reimbursement page.

How often should I consult?

It depends on the complaint. A recent issue often improves within one or two sessions; a long-standing one may call for occasional follow-up over time. I never prescribe a fixed programme of sessions.

What happens during the first consultation?

It starts with a conversation about your complaint and your history, followed by a mobility assessment, then appropriate manual techniques. Bring any imaging results you have, and wear comfortable clothing.
